Monday night at Nationals Park, Ryan Zimmerman hosted the fifth annual “A Night At The Park” fundraiser to benefit ziMS Foundation, the charity Zimmerman and his family funded to raise money to fight against multiple sclerosis, the disease that afflicts his mother, Cheryl.
The event means so much to Zimmerman and his family that he had a clause written into his contract that allows him use of the stadium one night every year. And this year’s was the most successful yet for Zimmerman and the charity.

The night’s festivities – a concert featuring Billy Currington and Jerrod Niemann and a silent auction – raised about $300,000, which pushed the five-year total for “A Night At The Park” to more than $1 million. About 3,000 people attended the concert. To accommodate the largest crowd in the event’s brief history, a covered stage was moved to the left-field line, and those who bought VIP tickets sat in the Norfolk Southern Club.
Zimmerman began ziMS in the winter before his first major league season, when he was only 21 years old. It has become a huge part of his life and a significant philanthropic contribution to a worthy cause.
